Fred Thompson Dominates South Carolina Debate

The big winner tonight was Fred Thompson. Most of the other candidates stuck with the usual rhetoric that we have heard before, but not Fred Thompson. He was articulate and detailed, no matter what question was asked of him. He completely wiped the floor with Mike Huckabee by simply pointing out Huckabee's far left agenda should he win the Presidency. Really none of the other candidate stood out.

The biggest complaint I heard from people who were holding their support back from Fred Thompson was that they weren't sure that he wanted the Presidency bad enough. Well Fred has been busting his behind since mid December and I think it is time that everyone get behind the only true conservative in the race before we end up with a nominee that no conservative could vote for.

I think all doubts have been dispelled. Fred Thompson is the TRUE Reagan conservative we should all get behind.

Mike Huckabee was exposed by Thompson tonight as a religious conservative but left wing (and ignorant) on foreign and domestic (tax) policy. And more evidence is available on the internet to back up what Thompson said. Part of what bothers me about Huckabee most is that he lies about his record. Many politicians do this, but to this civilian it seems a tad.....sociopathic.

I've always seen Mitt Romney as a Stepford candidate, a plastic cyborg. Except in last Sunday's forum where his executive experience impressed me. I can see him as a Vice President as important as Dick Cheney with a giant responsibility: tame and shrink the federal bureacracy. (I wanted Duncan Hunter as VP but he hurt himself badly this week, so Hunter for Secretary of Defense).

As to McCain I supported him in 2,000. I donated to him and he turned around and gave $20,000 to a South Carolina racist. Disappointing. Worse came in 2004, when he declared John Kerry his best friend in the Senate (Kerry offered him the VP slot) then as I researched Kerry's background I kept running into stuff on McCain: the man who made the POW/MIA wives cry, who in partnership with Kerry closed down the search for POW's, who I saw in delirious photographic embrace with a Vietnamese communist (have seen him embrace Hillary and Obama but not Cindy, his wife) who with Kerry pushed through a billion dollar exclusive port deal in communist Vietnam which enriched John Kerry's cousin. (has Kerry donated to McCain's campaign? I wonder). McCain is great on the war in Iraq and the surge, but on communist China and Vietnam? Don't know. Not willing to gamble.
